RSM Design transformed The Summit Bechtel Reserve into an accessible, inspiring, and well-branded destination—blending wayfinding, environmental graphics, and placemaking to foster adventure, leadership, and community.
Spanning 10,000 acres in West Virginia, The Summit Bechtel Reserve is the permanent home of the Boy Scouts of America’s National Jamboree, hosting 40,000 scouts and 50,000 visitors. RSM Design played a pivotal role in shaping the site’s identity, wayfinding, and placemaking—crafting an experience that blends the spirit of scouting with the site’s natural beauty. From early planning in the Source Book to the design of basecamps, activity hubs, and donor recognition, our team ensured every element reinforced exploration, camaraderie, and adventure.
Balancing scale, environmental responsibility, and seamless navigation, RSM Design developed a master sign program that integrates with the rugged landscape while guiding visitors effortlessly. Placemaking elements honor scouting traditions while embracing innovation, creating an immersive environment where scouts connect, navigate, and embark on life-changing experiences.

OVER A DECADE OF COLLABORATION
RSM Design developed a long-term partnership with the Boy Scouts of America, creating the permanent and temporary branding, placemaking, and wayfinding for both The Summit Bechtel Reserve and the National Scout Jamboree events. Our involvement began in 2008 with the strategies defined in the Source Book, which established design principles that guided the site’s development and informed future decisions.
